Step-by-Step Pooja Vidhi

Cleanliness & Red Altar Sthapana (वेदी निर्माण)

Clean the puja room thoroughly. Place a wooden chowki covered with red or yellow silk cloth. Make an unbroken nine-square grid with wheat grains for Navagrahas and a Swastik with rice for Lakshmi.

Kalash Consecration & Varun Invocation (कलश पूजन)

Fill a brass/copper kalash with Gangajal and water. Drop supari, coin, cardamom, and clove inside. Place 5 mango leaves and tie a coconut in red chunri atop the kalash.

Bahi-Khata & Kuber Safe Pujan (बही-खाता एवं तिजोरी पूजन)

Draw auspicious Roli Swastikas and write 'Shri' on the new ledger, accounts notebook, laptop, or cash locker. Sprinkle akshat, rolli, and chandan chanting the Kuber Mantra.

Shodashopachara Worship & Lotus Offering (कमल पुष्प एवं खीर भोग)

Offer fresh pink lotus blossoms to Goddess Lakshmi, Durva to Ganesha, and 5 yellow cowries and Gomati chakras. Offer warm kheer cooked with cow's milk and raw sugar.

Lighting the 16 Diyas & Grand Maha Aarti (दीप प्रज्वलन एवं महाआरती)

Light the primary four-wicked ghee lamp (Choumukha Diya) in front of the deities. Light 15 oil diyas and distribute them to the front entrance, tulsi pot, kitchen, safe, and terraces. Conclude with 'Om Jai Lakshmi Mata' and 'Jai Ganesh Deva'.

Dos (Auspicious Actions)

  • Worship during Sthir Lagna (Taurus / Leo) for stability in wealth
  • Place Goddess Lakshmi on the right side of Lord Ganesha
  • Leave the main Choumukha ghee diya burning continuously throughout the night

Don'ts (Things to Avoid)

  • Never gamble, consume liquor, or engage in disputes on Diwali night
  • Do not use cracked, blackened old diyas for the main puja altar
  • Do not leave the house completely pitch-dark or locked
