Step-by-Step Pooja Vidhi

Snan & Shuddhi (Self-Purification & Asana)

Take a bath, wear clean satvik clothes, face East or North. Sit peacefully on a wool or kusha asana. Take three sips of water from the achmani chanting the purification mantra.

Deepam Prajwalan (Lighting the Sacred Lamp)

Light the ghee diya with a matchstick and ring the bell gently. Fold hands and offer reverence to the light that dispels darkness.

शुभं करोति कल्याणं आरोग्यं धनसम्पदाम्। शत्रुबुद्धि-विनाशाय दीपज्योतिर्नमोऽस्तु ते॥

Ganesh Smaran & Tilak (Invoking Lord Ganesha)

Apply a tilak of Chandan and Roli to Lord Ganesha first, then to your Ishta Devata. Offer unbroken rice grains (Akshat) with devotion.

Pushparpan & Dhoop (Flowers & Fragrance)

Offer fresh flowers at the feet of the deities. Wave the fragrant dhoop stick in circular clockwise motion.

वनस्पतिरसोद्भूतो गन्धाढ्यो गन्ध उत्तमः। आघ्रेयः सर्वदेवानां धूपोऽयं प्रतिगृह्यताम्॥

Naivedya & Aarti (Prasad & Divine Light)

Offer pure satvik prasad (mishri, fruit, or sweet). Sprinkle a drop of water around the plate as a gesture of offering. Sing the Aarti and take the holy flame with both hands to touch your forehead and eyes.

कर्पूरगौरं करुणावतारं संसारसारम् भुजगेन्द्रहारम्। सदावसन्तं हृदयारविन्दे भवं भवानीसहितं नमामि॥

Dos (Auspicious Actions)

  • Always keep the home mandir clean and at chest level or higher
  • Face East or North while performing the pooja
  • Use fresh, clean water and genuine cow ghee
  • Maintain peaceful silence or chant mantras with reverence

Don'ts (Things to Avoid)

  • Never blow out a diya with your breath; use a flower petal or spoon gently
  • Do not offer stale, wilted, or already-smelled flowers
  • Avoid placing leather items near the pooja space
  • Do not offer Tulsi leaves to Lord Ganesha or Shivling

Q: Can I perform daily pooja if I have only 5 minutes?
Yes! A sincere 5-minute worship with a lighted ghee lamp, water offering, single flower, and the Gayatri or Maha Mrityunjaya mantra chanted 3 times with pure heart is completely valid (Manasa Pooja).
