Panchamrit Abhishek
Offer raw milk, then curd, then ghee, then honey, and finally sugar syrup, following each with a gentle wash of pure Gangajal.

Bhasma & Chandan Shringara
Gently pat dry the Shivling with a soft cotton cloth. Apply the three sacred lines of Vibhuti (Tripundra) with white chandan.

Bilva Patra Samarpana
Take unblemished three-leaf Bilvapatra, write 'Ram' or 'Om' with chandan on each leaf, and place them inverted (smooth side down) onto the Shivling.

Maha Mrityunjaya Japa & Aarti
Chant the Maha Mrityunjaya mantra 11 times. Light natural camphor (Karpura) and sing Om Jai Shiv Omkara with brass bell.

- Ensure the North spout of the Shivling faces the proper direction
- Offer only smooth, unbroken Bilva leaves without insect marks
- Use raw unboiled milk rather than packaged boiled milk if possible
Don'ts (Things to Avoid)
- Never offer Ketaki (screwpine) flower, Champa, or Turmeric (Haldi) to a Shivling
- Do not offer Tulsi leaves or Kumkum to Shiva
- Never cross the Nirmalya (drainage channel) during circumambulation (Ardh-Pradakshina only)
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why is complete pradakshina forbidden around a Shivling?
In Shiva temples, the channel through which abhishek water flows (Som Sutra) contains intense cosmic power. Crossing it disrupts the magnetic and spiritual energy; hence, only half-circumambulations (Ardh-Pradakshina) back and forth are performed.
