Morning Bath and Clean Cotton Garments (प्रातः स्नान)
Wake before dawn. Take a purifying bath and put on clean, dry clothes. Do not consume anything before offering Arghya.
Surya Dev is the Pratyaksha Devata (the visible divine). Offering pure water mixed with red sandalwood and flowers in a copper vessel at dawn grants health, sharp intellect, leadership, and radiant eye vision.

Fill the copper lota with pure water. Add a pinch of red sandalwood powder (or roli), a few unbroken grains of akshat, a red flower, and a small pinch of jaggery.
Stand barefoot facing East. Raise both hands above your forehead level. Slowly tilt the copper lota, allowing the water to fall in an unbroken gentle stream while gazing at the rising sun through the water cascade.
Do not step on the spilled holy water. Place a clean dish or plant pot beneath to collect water. Dip ring fingers into the water drops on the vessel rim and gently touch your eyes, forehead, and throat.
Turn clockwise at your spot three times while chanting 'Om Namo Suryaya'. Then close eyes and chant the sacred Gayatri Mantra 11 or 21 times.
